Sophie Snow is a textile designer and quilter based in Saint Dogmaels, West Wales.
After working in the fashion industry as a print designer for over ten years, Sophie wanted to return to her own creative practice and reconnect with the craft of making. She loves working with colour and playing with shape, pattern and texture to create one-of-a-kind textile pieces.
Her work is inspired by the landscape surrounding her home in West Wales — its changing colours, organic forms and quiet, natural beauty. At the heart of her practice is a desire to slow down and be present; to notice what is around her and simply be in the moment. Inspiration often comes from this act of looking and paying attention — finding interest in the everyday, the overlooked and the small details of the landscape.
Quilting offers Sophie a way to explore this sense of presence. Its slow, methodical process encourages time, repetition and close attention. The same is true for the finished pieces: layers of colour, shape, stitch and texture reveal themselves gradually, inviting the viewer to pause, look closer and spend a little more time with the work.
